Comfrey leaves are richer in nutrients than many plants due to their deep roots. Once established in their pots, with healthy new leaves growing and at least 2 inches long, plant out into their permanent location, leaving at least 3 feet between plants. You can simply add comfrey leaves and stalks directly into your compost bin. Keep moist and apply a liquid or pelleted nitrogen feed regularly. This ensures that the cuttings get the best possible start, minimising the risk of adverse effects from soil-borne pest or diseases. Comfrey root cuttings should be planted as soon as possible, ideally into pots of compost or soil, at least 2 inches in diameter. Cultivation and careĬomfrey is easy to grow, and you will receive full planting and care instructions with your order. It will only spread via cuttings, unlike wild comfrey and some other russian comfrey strains which will spread rapidly by seeding and root creep. This is a sterile, non-spreading strain of comfrey, developed by Lawrence Hills. We only grow and sell the comfrey variety Bocking 14. Every garden, allotment, and smallholding should have a comfrey patch! Bocking 14 comfrey Comfrey is one of the most useful and versatile plants you can grow – it’s easy to care for, a tremendous pollinator attractor, a highly effective fertiliser, a feed supplement for many animals, and has potential health benefits for humans too.
